The USDA announced a new program to assist U.S. fishermen who have been economically impacted by retaliatory trade actions of foreign governments. The Seafood Trade Relief Program (STRP) is part of a relief strategy to support American producers. The list of eligible fisheries include: Atka mackerel, Crab (Dungeness, King, Snow, Southern Tanner), Flounder, Geoduck, Goosefish, Herring, Lobster, Pacific Cod, Pacific Ocean Perch, Pollock, Sablefish, Salmon, Sole, Squid, Tuna and Turbot. Halibut was not included because it did not meet the economic impact threshold of $5 million or greater to qualify for the program. The application period is between September 14 and December 14, but we would encourage you to apply early. Click here for application forms and more information.
