The Aleutian Marketplace is a partnership between APICDA, The Aleut Corporation, Wells Fargo and Fastwyre. The program works with community members, small business owners, entrepreneurs, and creative people throughout the Aleutian-Pribilof region to explore business concepts and talk about the nuts-and-bolts of entrepreneurship to help develop the regional economy.
The Aleutian Marketplace Micro Grant is available for eligible businesses in the Aleutian/Pribilof Island region. Businesses can apply for grant funding for up to $3,000 to be used for a wide selection of items that are essential to start or assist an established privately owned business. The application due date is March 15, 2024.
Aleutian Marketplace Micro Grant Awardees 2022-2023
Aleutian Beats Drums, Akutan – AMMG funds were used to rent a woodworking shop and purchase supplies to enable the business to create and sell Indigenous drums, contributing to the preservation and celebration of the Unangan culture.
Aleutian Notary, Unalaska – Funds were used to purchase electronic equipment to support 24-hour Remote Online Notary (RON) services for the fishing fleet and community.
Aleutian Sisu, Nikolski – The micro grant was used to purchase tools and parts for this ATV repair and vehicle rental shop.
Anne’s Cookbook, Sand Point – The grant funds were used to print 150 copies of a cookbook focused on traditional recipes carried down for generations.
CCFM Filters, King Cove – Funds were used to purchase and retrofit a connex to move its marine filter shop near the harbor for greater fleet accessibility.
Cenlow Services, Unalaska – Grant funds were used to purchase a laptop and software subscriptions to help launch this new administrative support business focused on helping local small businesses and nonprofits.
Coco by the Sea, King Cove – The company purchased supplies and studio furnishings to support its handmade Alaskan-beach inspired jewelry.
Dave Rave Photography, Akutan –The AMMG funds were used for a photo editing subscription and equipment upgrades to jump-start their photography business.
Done Rite Contracting, Sand Point – Essential tools were acquired with grant funding for a home remodeling business to ensure quality service.
Artemie Kalmakoff, Jr., Commercial Fishing, Sand Point – The grant helped to purchase vessel electronic upgrades to include GPS and radar to improve operational safety.
Optical Aleutians, Unalaska – The grant was used to purchase a lensometer and a selection of frames to verify prescriptions and provide quality eyewear.
Precision Air Inc., Nelson Lagoon* – The company purchased fuel to help offset fuel prices and continue
providing air transportation services in the region.
R&C Ice Cream & Bakery, King Cove* – R&C purchased additional kitchen equipment and furnishings for the
dining area in 2023. In 2022, they purchased an ice cream dipping cabinet, commercial blender, and additional equipment to expand its operation in the city’s rec center.
Sacred Sea Studio, Unalaska – The company purchased a professional grade sewing machine and supplies for its custom jewelry, clothing, and accessories business created with materials provided by the sea.
Scan Dawgs Gear Work, Unalaska* – In 2023, Scan Dawgs used the AMMG to buy a powerful welder to set up an additional welding station in order to better meet the welding repair needs of the local fishing industry. In 2022, they bought an electro-hydraulic mobile rebar bender to repair crab pots.
The Shop, Sand Point – Funds were used for retail space rent and equipment upgrades for the restaurant.
Tugidam Ungii (The Moon’s sister), Unalaska – AMMG funds were used to purchase and ship an energy efficient refrigerator to store products (chocolates, confections, and traditional herbal remedies) and ingredients.
