As our region gears up for the fishing season that As our region gears up for the fishing season that is opening soon, APICDA is focused on providing market access for our fishing communities. New this year, in the absence of Peter Pan, our board approved partnering with Silver Bay Seafoods to provide ice, a market, and services for fishermen in Nelson Lagoon. The fish will be sold in Nelson Lagoon and tendered to False Pass for processing. Congratulations to Julieanne Berikoff, Rissa Bucaneg, Ariel Go, Jr., Danielle Merculief, Payten Stroud, Alleri Tungul, and Kiara Villamor! We are excited to be out in the region this week f We are excited to be out in the region this week for a spring visit! The first stop today for our board and executive team members is Nelson Lagoon. Our board has proposed hosting APICDA’s traditional Anchorage-based community conference every other year, allowing us to balance the conference with an opportunity to visit residents in their home communities. Our plan is to also visit False Pass, St. George, and Nikolski this week and be back in May for Atka, Akutan, and Unalaska. Special thanks to the local Fishermen’s Associations for hosting community meetings and to APICDA’s CLOs for all their ground support!

It was great to visit with the group last night for a meet & greet at the Anchorage office. The AYFS provides training, information, and networking opportunities for commercial fishermen early in their careers.

Our programs team had a fantastic visit to Nikolsk Our programs team had a fantastic visit to Nikolski this week! They hosted a productive community meeting and discussed APICDA's wide range of programs. In addition, they organized an activity with the kiddos and delivered backpacks filled with new school supplies. APICDA greatly values the opportunity to visit our member communities and engage in meaningful conversations with residents to gather feedback, answer questions, and strengthen connections.
